Good and bad
Nathan had his one week post-op check today. His eye looks good, to the docs anyway. Still looks red and owie to me. He is acting pretty normal, other than when he really wants to look at something, he has to put his face on it. He can't see anything right now, it is all blurry. On the picture charts, they would put up a picture of a tree, and he would say, "Choo choo train". They put up a picture of a jeep, and he says, "Playground!" He was WAAAAY off.
Good news...they finally gave me a prescription for glasses for the first eye they did in October. Been blurry for 2 months. Bad news...the power is like a +15.5 which is a lot like the glasses I had when I was little. Big fishbowl lenses. Good news...they don't make them out of real glass anymore, so his should be a lot lighter on the nose and ears than mine were. Bad news...they may not come in for 2 weeks, so he may be blurry for Christmas morning. Good news...the lady at the optical shop was super duper extra nice and said she would try to pull some heartstrings at the lab to see if they can get them in before Christmas.
And some angel was with us today because he was so well behaved! The appointment was at 1:50, we got there at like 1:20 and didn't get done until 3:30. That is a LONG time for a 3 year old to be happy and compliant. He even sat still for the machine that looks into the back of your eye, and he wanted to sit all by himself in the big chair for the second doc's exam. The doc put on the "spelunker" hat that has the big light on it to look at Nathan's eyes closer, and he was telling Nathan he could see what he ate for breakfast with that hat. Cheerios? Toast? What did you eat for breakfast?
Nathan thinks a second and says, "Cake!"
Even tho he had Pop Tarts this morning, I was so proud of him for answering questions all by himself and being such a big boy. Suddenly he turns 3, and he's so much more mature. It was a little weird.
