Cat Nip

Charlie went in for his teeth today. They had to put him under to do all the work. He ended up having to have 2 teeth pulled. One was a back tooth that was cracked and rotting, the other was a fang (eye tooth) that was chipped and abscessed. Who knew cat teeth could get so bad. Sean asked if we should've been brushing his teeth all this time, too. In all my years growing up, we never brushed any cat's teeth. I always thought if they had access to birds or mice, the gnawing on the bones would naturally clean the teeth. Guess he hasn't caught anything lately.

So Charlie always had pretty big fangs. He's too sore right now to let me have a good look, but that will be weird to see him yawn with only one fang now. Guess there isn't much of a market for cat dentures.

Tomorrow, we start 2 different drugs. Giving cats a pill is SOO much fun. Especially when I usually grab him around his head and pry his mouth open right where his sore gums will be...

The other drug is absorbed thru his gums. I imagine it spilling everywhere in the struggle.

Oh, and he now has prescription food to help with the litterbox. Dang, it ain't much fun getting old.

weird-o-rama!! How can an indoor cat get so many problems all at once. Didn't the vet notice some of this stuff last visit?? Oh well, he is on the mend. Oh and good luck with those pills. You will probably have to stick it way back past the tongue into his throat. yikes

Can you crush the pill or mix it with some wet food for him? Or is that a trick he doesn't fall for either? Good luck!
