Eyelid muscles
are incredibly strong. When it is time for eyedrops, Nathan can squeeze those suckers so tight, ain't nothing prying them open. Poor thing. I have to sit on him to control his arms and rolling away, then try to pry open the eyelids and hold the drop bottle all at the same time. It's quite the battle.
So the Abby story.
Tuesday night, Abby starts running a fever. We've all been passing something around, and she's had these fluke fevers for a day and then she's fine. Well, lately, she's been talking like she swallowed a golf ball and has to talk around it in her throat. Sounds like a subtle pee wee herman. Anyway, the school says if they are running a fever, keep them home until there has been no fever for 24 hours.
So Wednesday, we have to take Nathan to surgery and we leave Abby home with Nana. Sean calls the peds clinic where the kids have their doctor and makes an appointment for 3 thinking we should be home by then.
Of course, read the previous entry and you know he was just coming out of surgery around then. While we are waiting, Nana calls and says that Abby was in tears after lunch because eating stuff hurt her throat THAT badly. Hmm. She really needs to keep the appointment, but we are unable to leave Nathan.
So Nana bravely plugs in the address of the clinic in her Garmin and attempts to take Abby to the appointment for us. The Garmin takes her to the wrong gate that does not have the visitor passes, so she has to go back. Then she calls us again saying we have to call the place and put her on an "allow entry" list of some sort. Sean does and she gets on the Air Force Base. Hurray.
A few minutes later, she calls again saying they won't see Abby unless Nana has a power of attorney. Crap. We can fax a handwritten note, but there aren't many notary publics on the same day surgery floor. So Sean calls the clinic and tells them all his info and that we are with our son in surgery and there is no way to get them a power of attorney at the moment.
Somehow, somebody allows this as a phone interview and permits Abby to be seen. They swab her throat and it comes out negative for strep, so doc says it must be a bad virus and push fluids and soft foods and give motrin for pain.
Next day, she goes to school. All seems fine.
Today, peds office calls us back and the long 2 day culture of the throat swab is POSITIVE for strep. Keep her home (she was already at school) and come get some antibiotics. No sharing food or drink and no huggy kissy stuff, and change her toothbrush.
Well, pickle sauce. Last thing we need right now is for Nathan to get it and hurt even more than he is. Last thing I need is to get it and feel rotten while I'm trying to pry open Nathan's eye.
When it rains, it pours. And I think Nana earned some sort of merit badge for going thru all of that for us! Thank you, Nana!

You are welcome and hope you get Nathan to cooperate!!!
By the way, love the cat bowling. I am a bit adicted at the moment.
Have a great week!!
My goodness that was as good a drama episode as one of my soap operas. LOL Sure hope you sidestep the STREP with all of the rest of you.
So does Nathan say the drops sting or hurt in any way? If not, tell him it is like rain for his eyes to wash them out. Maybe he is too young to reason like that? Just a thought. Good Luck!
He doesn't say they hurt or sting. I think mostly he is protesting us MAKING him do it. No one likes being forced.
We have told him his eye needs a drink, but that doesn't seem to help.
The one trick that seems to have worked is at night when we have to tape the eye shield on him (and he hated the bandage/eye tape right after the surgery), we put the shield on and tell him it is a pillow for the boo boo so the boo boo can go night night. This seems to make it ok to put that on and he hasn't been fighting it. *knock on wood*
