Conference
The first parent-teacher conference is under our belt. Our appointment time was 6:45, but she was running way behind, so we didn't get in until 7:30.
Got a glowing report. She showed us some samples of Abby's work and how that showed them where she was developmentally. She colors mostly within the lines, so she is recognizing boundaries. She can put one bingo dobber of paint in each square on a page, so she has 1 to 1 correlation. OK. Abstract, but OK. She showed us a picture Abby drew of a person. They were kind of looking for how much detail the kids would put in. Abby put in fingers and shoes and hair and pupils inside the eyeballs. Impressive.
Abby gets along well with the others. I guess they do a version of attendance and ask the kids if anyone is missing for that day, and she said that Abby is one of the first ones they mention on the days she doesn't go. She is the first one to clean up and sit on the carpet ready to go home at the end of the day. She asks for assistance when she needs it, like zipping a jacket. A lot of kids are too scared or shy to request help. Never any discipline issues. Everything is fine and dandy. I think the teacher must've implemented the "alone time" thing because when I asked about it, she said that Sophia "still kind of needs that". She didn't elaborate, so I assume it isn't my business. At least it isn't some exclusion of Abby by the other kids. All is well.
